It’s been said that it takes 10,000 hours to truly master something. But what if we could dramatically accelerate our ability to go from novice to expert in any of a range of pursuits? Talk about the ultimate brain hack!
Chris Berka, CEO and Co-Founder at Advanced Brain Monitoring, is pioneering EEG-based technologies to open the window on how the brain performs as it does. She is helping neuroscience to re:THINK the process of learning.
By mapping the brains of experts—Olympic archers, expert marksmen, scientists and engineers, PGA golf pros and military leaders—her technology is helping novices move their brains to be closer to that of the experts. A software and hardware interface gives visual, auditory and tactile feedback to a novice whilst in the act of performance, accelerating the shift to the expert brain state.
A study of 300 individuals found that this technology helped 85% of people move toward an expert brain state in just one day of training and feedback. The implications are, needless to say, profound. Not least of which is that classroom teaching may have a very, very different look in years to come.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
