Current Projects

SocialSim
Funding Agency:
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
Amount:
$1,020,000
Phase:
Phase 2
PI:
Chris Berka
More Information

Advanced tools and methods to facilitate understanding the behavior as to why certain social media content is shared more frequently, to explore the underlying motivations that promote sharing, and to assess the impact of information form/content and context on the likelihood of spreading the information. Scenarios are designed to dive deeply into the construct of empathy and related emotions.

Interactive Companion Robot for Preventing Neuro-Cognitive Decline in Alzheimer's and Other Dementias
Funding Agency:
National Institute on Aging (NIA)
Amount:
$410,550
Phase:
Phase I
PI:
Chris Berka
More Information

This project addresses the growing unmet need for alternative approaches to mitigating cognitive decline by introducing a robot companion that will interact and motivate patients in order to reinforce therapeutic behavior. This project builds on the progress of another ABM-led NIA grant that leverages EEG-biomarkers developed to map the trajectory of various dementias with characterization in the earliest detectable stages of the pathophysiological processes. Cannabis Impairment Detection Application (CIDA)
Funding Agency:
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Amount:
$1,725,000
Phase:
Phase II
PI:
Chris Berka
More Information

NIH through NIDA solicits the research and development of digital markers for detection of marijuana intoxication and cognitive impairment. To address the need for a validated method for quantifying impairment resulting from cannabis intoxication this project will implement an integrated psycho-physiological cognitive behavioral and subjective report evaluation system programmed on an iPad using iOS Research Kit. An easy to apply wireless headset will acquire brain electrical activity EEG heart rate heart rate variability movement and psycho motor responses to objectively probe the effects of cannabis during passive states and when participants are engaged in attention verbal memory and executive function tasks. Characterizing Alzheimer's Disease with INSPECDS: Integrated Neurocognitive and Sleep-Behavior Profiler for the Endophenotypic Classification of Dementia Subtypes
Funding Agency:
National Institute of Health (NIH)
Amount:
$2,525,000
Phase:
Phase II
PI:
Chris Berka
More Information

Advanced Brain Monitoring developed an Integrated Neurocognitive and Sleep-Behavior Profilers for the Endophenotypic Classification of Dementia Subtypes (INSPECDS), which provides an inexpensive, non-invasive solution combining neurocognitive, electrophysiological (EEG, ECG, EMG), and sleep-behavior assessment into a single, integrated system featuring automated scoring and classification algorithms.
